The meeting was called to order by President KB2RLH at 2:10PM at the
Walton
Fire Station.
Those in attendance were the following: W2TKB, AB2RM,
W2RRK,
WB4AEF, AB2PA, W2CD, N2WDV, KB2HDL, KC2LEA, WA2IAX, K2EZK, KC2IKQ,
AB2IC, KC2LAB, and KB2RLH.
REPORTS:
The minutes of the 9/4/08 meeting were read and approved with the
following change -
W2CD reported that the DC power feed line should be
replaced with the spare cable which is at hand. This is quite an
undertaking and will require lots or member participation.
Treasure's report: $1462.43 balance.
Nets: CW - 19 and FM - 26
OLD BUSINESS:
Repeater:
W2CD - The Repeater was visited on 9/11 by KB2RLH, W2RRK and W2CD to
determine cause of repeater trouble. The tree across the
access road
was cut away with KB2RLH's chainsaw. The two missing windows
in the
hut were covered with plywood. The radio equipment,
regulators, heater
and antenna system seemed in order but the battery had a
open or high
impedance cell and would not take a charge. The battery
voltage was around 10.5 volts. The battery was removed and
W2RRK took it home to
see if it could be corrected.
N2WDV - The charger would not correct the battery problem. It was taken to
N2WDV
to see if he could obtain credit on a new similar battery. The
company refused
due to economic conditions and age of battery [in service
since late
2004]. Adin went ahead an ordered a new battery at the
wholesale price
of $145.95.
This action to buy the new battery was approved.
Harvest Festival:
N2WDV - KC2CQS is to provide pumpkins and an easel.
KB2RLH to provide second easel.
N2WDV to provide antenna system and Ham literature.
AB2IC to provided radio, PC, QSL cards for display, power
strip and
power cord.
W2CD to provide a small transceiver and key for code demo, table
and
chairs.
N2WDV, AB2IC, KC2IKQ and W2CD to attend festival starting
at
8:45AM to 4:00PM on 10/11/08.
Antenna installation to be 1:00PM on 10/10PM by as many
as can
show up.
ARES
KC2LAB - Reported on County Superintendent's ARES meeting on 9/18 to
approve county plans. At this time the system is not being
handled with
any great degree of alacrity.
Next meeting to be
announced.
W2RRK - 2M installation plans at Walton Fire Department to be submitted to Fire
Commissioner
for approval.
In two weeks a report will be issued on a
proposed ARES exercise. The 2M rig has been installed at the
Margaretville Hospital.
Miscellaneous
KC2IKQ - KC2IKQ to volunteer for Road Race duty on 10/30.
NEW BUSINESS:
W2RRK and AB2IC to make a short Power Point presentation at our next
meeting. This will be one of the short ones that are
available from the
ARRL. If liked by the group others will be provided.
W2RRK - New repeater at Hancock. 147.345Mz with PL146.2 cycles.
K2EZK - K2EZK and son to attend Ballston Spa Hamfest.
KB2RLH - To see if he can get ARRL Section
Manager for Western New York, W2LC to attend a meeting.

AB2IC - 146.955 Repeater seems in need of repair. The output seems low. K2NK
is
busy at this time but should get to it.
WB4AEF - To join club.
KC2LEA - to join club.
W2RLH - Next meeting is tentatively set for Walton Fire Department
on 11/2/08 with snack provided by KC2LEA and W2KTB.
